The Orioles have been a lot of fun lately! They are 6-1 in September, and have won three of their last four games via walk offs. And don’t let the current opponent fool you. Most of the Orioles winning has come against good teams, the Padres and the Dodgers.
Tonight they will be tested with a matchup against Paul Skenes, perhaps the best pitcher in all of Major League Baseball. That doesn’t guarantee a defeat, since the Pirates offense rarely supports their ace, but it could make life tough for the Orioles
offense.
That offense will include Jeremiah Jackson, who exited Tuesday’s game after being hit by a pitch on the elbow. He will start at third base here. That’s a big test for him. Obviously, his bat has been great. But the Orioles need a backup infielder going in 2026. That could be Jackson, but he needs to dependable on the dirt. We haven’t seen that yet.
Tyler Wells heads to the bump for the O’s. This will be his second start since coming off of the IL. He was solid in San Diego, where he made his season debut. Over five innings he allowed two runs on five hits, no walks, and four strikeouts. He will hope to be even better tonight, pitching on more than a week of rest against a far less potent lineup.
Let’s go get that series win, O’s!
