I take no pleasure in writing this column. I’m the eternal optimist. I’ve always looked at life with a glass-half-full perspective. We don’t control the cards we’re dealt, but we can control how we respond to them.
However, the cards that we have been dealt prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that Aaron Glenn is not fit to be the head coach of the New York Jets.
You can’t lose to a previously winless team at home. You can’t start your career in the AFC East as the head coach with a 0-8 record. You can’t be
outscored 107-6 in the final two minutes of every first half. The evidence is simply mounting that Glenn is in over his head.
It’s a sad thing to write considering Glenn is one of the true great players in franchise history. It’s a sad thing to write because, from Glenn’s opening press conference, he articulated how important this job was in turning around the Jets and how much he took it personally as someone who bled the green and white. However, wanting something just isn’t enough.
If the Jets decided to fire Glenn after this putrid performance against the Miami Dolphins in Week 7, no one could blame Woody Johnson. Does he actually do it? Woody is the judge, jury, and executioner, so only he truly knows. Whether he actually does it mid-season or not, there appears to be no shot in hell that Glenn is back in 2027.
