Lamine Yamal seems to have Lionel Messi on his mind as he heads into World Cup 2026 with the Spain national team.
The Barcelona wonderkid has uploaded a series of photos to Instagram and one in particular is making waves on social media.
Yamal has posted a picture which shows two football shirts together, one seems to be the Argentina No 10 which belongs to Messi and the other looks to be Yamal’s own No. 19 for Spain.
The teenager has long had to put up to comparisons with Messi but has always made
it clear that he wants to forge his own path in the world.
“For me, Messi is the greatest football player in history,” he said. “He is a legend and I do not find myself worthy of being compared to him. I do not want to be Messi and he knows it. I want to follow my own path.”
Yet Yamal’s incredible talent means that he’s seen by many as the player who will succeed Messi as the greatest in the game when the GOAT finally hangs up his boots.
