Tonight the Portland Trail Blazers take on the Memphis Grizzlies in NBA action. Blazers fans will get to see Ty Jerome, a player I’ve coveted for years, now revealed in his full glory. (The Grizzlies are paying him less than $10 million, y’all! What could have been…) But even more significantly, two participants will be playing their first games against former teammates after being traded. Jerami Grant will return to Moda Center after wearing a Blazers uniform for four years. Ja Morant will line
up across from the Memphis Grizzlies after being the face of their franchise for most of seven seasons.
This brings up an interesting question, especially for longer-term Blazers fans. Players come and go in every era. Most trades and free agency moves are unremarkable, but a few of them tug at your heartstrings like no others. So…what were the most poignant transitions for you, personally? Which player caused your heart to ache most when you saw them for the first time wearing somebody else’s colors? Do you remember the particular moment? If so, what were you thinking and how did it turn out?
