Prior to their evening practice on Monday night, Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell offered a couple of critically important injury updates.
The first was on wide receiver Jameson Williams, who missed Sunday’s practice unexpectedly. Campbell said that the veteran receiver is dealing with a shoulder injury, but it’s considered minor.
“He’s got a little shoulder (injury), he’s good to go, though,” Campbell said.
Campbell said he didn’t expect Williams to practice on Monday night, and he didn’t give a timeline
for his return. Still, it doesn’t seem very serious.
During Sunday’s practice, the Lions used Williams’ absence to give extra opportunities to veteran Tom Kennedy and former UFL receiver Tay Martin with the first-team offense.
Detroit was also missing cornerback Nick Whiteside on Sunday and he, too, is not expected to practice with a minor hamstring injury.
“Whiteside’s got a soft tissue (injury), a hammy. He’ll be alright, though, I think. I don’t think anything—these aren’t serious,” Campbell said.
Whiteside has had an excellent training camp and has worked his way into the CB3 conversation behind starters Rock Ya-Sin and D.J. Reed. His absence will lead to more opportunities for Ennis Rakestraw and Khalil Dorsey.
We’ll have a full injury report after Monday’s practice.
