The Dodgers on Thursday clinched the National League West with a win in Phoenix, capturing their 12th division crown in the last 13 seasons. It also locked them into the No. 3 seed for the National League playoffs.
What we know is that the Dodgers will begin their postseason in the wild card round
for the first time since 2021, and they will host that best-of-three series beginning on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium. Now this weekend will decide the Dodgers’ opponent. The No. 6 seed is still up for grabs between three teams, and will be the team coming to Los Angeles for the wild card round.
Final NL wild card spot
New York Mets 82-77 (.516) – – –
Cincinnati Reds 81-78 (.509) 1 GB
Arizona Diamondbacks 80-79 (.503) 2 GB
All three teams are on the road this weekend. The Mets play the Marlins in Miami, the Reds are on the road against the best-record-in-MLB Brewers, and Arizona is on the road to face the playoff-bound Padres in San Diego.
The Reds hold two-team tiebreakers over the Mets and D-backs by winning their season series. Cincinnati would win a three-team tiebreaker by going 8-4 against the other two teams, while Arizona and New York were each 5-7.
The D-backs and Mets split six games, but Arizona has the better intradivisional record (26-23 vs. NL West, compared to New York 24-25 against the NL East) to hold that two-team tiebreaker.
The Dodgers this season lost four of seven games to the Mets, won five out of six against the Reds, and were 7-6 against the D-backs.
