Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
2025 NFL Season Preview: Will Jalen Hurts, Eagles repeat as champions? – Scoop City DIANA RUSSINI: “For me, the reason why they beat the Super Bowl hangover, so to speak, is because of Jalen Hurts. Someone close with him shared with me that Jalen views this season so differently than he has every other year because now that he has the ring, it’s a completely different mentality. The pressure’s off. He’s done it now. So, now it almost feeds into the confidence
that he’s done it and he knows how to do it. He knows how to win in the big moments. Look, we saw him play at an exceptional level in a loss in a Super Bowl, right? So, now that he played exceptional again and turned out to be the winner in it all, how could he not feel great about what he’s doing and how his play is at the quarterback position? I think a quarterback last year we would have not said last year is the reason why the Philadelphia Eagles could win a Super Bowl is a reason why for this year I believe that they can.”
NFL Week 1 odds: Eagles favored to beat Cowboys – BGN
The last Sunday without NFL football until February is now behind us. Week 1 is here! And for the Philadelphia Eagles, that means they’re in the bright spotlight of the NFL Kickoff Game after winning a second Vince Lombardi Trophy. Their opponent: the dastardly Dallas Cowboys. The team with the longest streak of failing to merely appear in the NFC Championship Game will bear witness to the Eagles raising their Super Bowl LIX banner at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday evening. The Birds are currently entering this NFC East rivalry matchup as 7.5 -point home favorites, according to FanDuel. That’s just slightly more than the Kenny Pickett-led Eagles were favored (-7) against the Cooper Rush-led Cowboys in Week 17 last season.
The NFL’s 101 best players for the 2025 season: 10-1 – SB Nation
3) SAQUON BARKLEY. Howie Roseman bet on the best Saquon Barkley possible, and as much of a personnel genius as he’s been, even Roseman would likely tell you that he had no right to expect what happened after that contract was signed. Including the postseason, which ended with the franchise’s second Super Bowl win, Barkley ran the ball 436 times for 2,504 yards, 18 touchdowns, 80 forced missed tackles, and 32 runs of 50 yards or more. Perhaps the most insane metric in a host of what may have been the best running back season in pro football history is that the 2024 Eagles nearly had more explosive plays in the run game than in the passing game. Eagles quarterbacks combined for 28 completions of 20 or more air yards, while Barkley had 21 runs of 20 or more yards on the ground. And when it came to killing defenses with runs longer than that, nobody was in Barkley’s class — Barkley had runs of 41, 55, 59, 60, 62, 65, 68, 70, 72, and 78 yards.
NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Week 1 edition – PhillyVoice
1) Eagles (Super Bowl champions in 2024): The Eagles lost six starters (five to free agency and one to injury), they hardly spent any money in free agency, and yet they still pretty clearly in my opinion have the best roster in the NFL.
Better or Worse – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles had the best roster in the NFL last year and that helped them to win the Super Bowl. An interesting question is whether the roster could be even better this season? Before you shout “No!” remember what you thought of the Eagles at this time last year. Zack Baun had played well in camp, but no one expected him to be All Pro. Saquon Barkley hadn’t run for 2,000 yards. Nakobe Dean hadn’t put together a good season in his career. Mekhi Becton was unknown at RG. Nolan Smith was an underachiever. Rookie DBs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean were promising, but certainly not stars. There were plenty of questions. The Eagles got favorable answers to most of them. There are more questions this year. Can Tyler Steen play well at RG? Will Jahan Dotson take a big step forward? Do the Eagles have a good enough set of edge rushers? Will Jordan Davis take a big step forward? Can Moro Ojomo replace Milton Williams? Who will step up at safety? Will someone play well enough at CB2 to keep the defense at a high level?
Spadaro: The genius of Vic Fangio goes beyond X’s and O’s – PE.com
Those who play for Fangio love him, trust him, and listen to everything he tells them to do. “I’ll do anything for him,” edge player Nolan Smith said. “He knows how to bring out the best in me and I know he’s doing what he’s doing to make me productive. We all know that he has the entire defense’s best interests in mind.” Linebacker Zack Baun is the quintessential Fangio success story. Signed by the Eagles in the 2024 offseason after four seasons in New Orleans, where he hadn’t found real footing, Baun became an off-ball linebacker here and thrived. He earned first-team All-Pro honors and was a finalist for NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors last season. Baun understands the value of a coordinator who plays to the best interests of the athlete. “He knows what you do well and he puts you in the best positions to help the defense,” Baun said. “It sounds simple, but it isn’t. He has an understanding of the big picture and how you fit in. You have to trust in his vision and we do.”
Is Adoree’ Jackson the answer to Eagles’ second cornerback mystery? – NBCSP
“I’m just learning different things from C.P. (secondary coach Christian Parker) and everybody else in the building. So I think my development has been good from that standpoint, from everybody being hands-on and just trying to help me get into shape. getting to the role of the defense and getting to the role and the model of the team or the culture.” Even if Jackson does earn the opening-day nod, he knows things could change at any point. Ringo, Bennett and even rookie Mac McWilliams could get a shot at outside corner at any point, and there’s always the option of playing Cooper DeJean outside on a full-time basis and moving someone else into the slot. But if it’s Jackson’s job, the Eagles are getting a smart, savvy veteran who’s gotten steadily better over the past couple months. “It’s one of those things where you know what you’re capable of,” Jackson said. “You want to make every play, you want to do this, you want to do that, because you know what you’re supposed to do. But once you realize, you know, just do your job, just go out there, just find one thing to get better each day. Once you understand that, then everything else will come into play.”
2025 NFL projected win totals: Floor & ceiling for each NFC team – NFL.com
Ceiling: 13.0 — Floor: 10.4 — FanDuel over/under: 11.5. Eagles fans: Is it strange to be thanking the Cowboys? The Micah Parsons trade generated a win-total bump for you guys (and the Commanders).
2025 NFL season sim: Predictions, surprises, playoff teams – ESPN
Both Super Bowl LIX teams miss playoffs: Eleven months after the Chiefs and Eagles squared off in Super Bowl LIX, both teams cleaned out their lockers following Week 18. Neither managed to make it back to the playoffs, easily the shocker of the 2025 campaign in this simulation. The Eagles were actually done before the final week. Thought to be infallible heading into the season, the Eagles were 5-4 after Week 10 — a game behind the Cowboys but still seemingly in control of their postseason destiny. But that turned into a 6-8 record, leaving Philadelphia in pure panic mode. In the end, the Eagles couldn’t make up the gap, falling short in the NFC East and wild-card battle.
Trevon Diggs a full participant in practice, gives himself a good chance to play – PFT
Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs puts his chances at playing Thursday at 75-80 percent after a full practice Monday. “I did everything today. I did a lot of scout team reps, too,” Diggs said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “I was getting both. And I’m getting more conditioning. I feel good, so Thursday may be looking good.” Diggs returned to full participation in practice last Monday, the first time he’s practiced or played with teammates since Dec. 9, which his final game of the 2024 season.
Cowboys point/counterpoint: Did Micah Parsons trade kill season before it even began? – Blogging The Boys
I’m not exactly brimming with optimism. After the gut punch of the Micah Parsons trade, there are obviously questions about how you replace one of the elite pass rushers in the NFL. I know you are not happy, David. But if you remember, I saw that this was more possible than most wanted to say. Personally, I chalk this up to how Jerry Jones is probably the most inept GM in the league. It certainly appears that he poisoned things with his one-on-one “negotiation” with Parsons, which never should have happened. Coming up with a pass rush without Parsons is a monster threat for this season, but the team has some big question marks beyond that, with the interior of the defensive line and the strength of the running back room among the biggest in my mind. No disrespect to Kenny Clark, but it is doubtful he is going to turn the run defense around. The offensive line also has to come together quickly to open some holes for the backs and to provide protection for Dak Prescott. With the weapons at Prescott’s disposal, especially the addition of George Pickens, the passing game should be potent. That gives them a puncher’s chance in a lot of games if the defense doesn’t turn into wet toilet paper. But if he doesn’t get protection, or gets hurt, this season could get ugly fast. It already doesn’t look too great.
Can the Giants match the Commanders’ passing game? – Big Blue View
Last season the New York Giants played two competitive – but losing – games against the Washington Commanders. The Giants probably would have won the first one were it not for Graham Gano’s injury on the opening kickoff. The Commanders had the better of the play in their second meeting, although the Giants closed the gap at the end. On the basis of those two games alone you’d never have guessed that one team would finish 3-14 and the other 12-5 plus a trip to the NFC Championship Game. Neither team’s defense was anything to write home about last season, with the Giants giving up 415 points and the Commanders 391. The difference was (unsurprisingly, if you watched the Giants last year) on offense, where Washington scored 485 points to the Giants’ 273, second lowest in the NFL. That’s a large gap to close if the Giants are to have any chance of winning this Sunday.
