Needing some wins against good teams to prove something to the baseball world, the Yankees could not have gotten off to a much better start than they did on Tuesday night. Led by two Jazz Chisholm Jr. home runs, a Trent Grisham grand slam, and a good outing from Max Fried, the Yankees bested the Astros in the first game of the teams’ meeting in Houston. However, they still need more than one win to truly turn a corner against the cream of the crop, but they can try and do so tonight in game two.
Tonight in Houston, the Yankees can clinch a series victory against their old foe. To try and do so, they’ll send Will Warren to the mound. Despite one bad outing against the Red Sox, Warren has been pretty solid of late, stats-wise. Since July 30th, he has a 2.59 ERA, although that is aided by the fact that all of the runs he allowed in his so-so start last time were unearned. He’s very much had the up-and-down season of a rookie pitcher, but the Yankees will hope to see an up in this one.
For the Astros, Jason Alexander will get the ball. Not the “Seinfield” actor, Alexander has been below par since Houston claimed him off waivers back in May. However, he is capable of good, as he shut down the Yankees in the Bronx back in early August.
We hope that you’ll come join us in the game thread for tonight’s game as the Yankees try to pick up a series against their longtime nemeses.
