Barcelona sporting director Deco has offered an update on Lamine Yamal’s injury and explained why he was ruled out of action after being called up to the Spain squad for World Cup qualifiers.
The Catalans
have confirmed that Yamal will miss around 2-3 weeks of action, and Deco has told Catalunya Radio that he was in pain after playing 90 minutes against PSG in the Champions League.
“Lamine was suffering after the PSG match. We decided he wouldn’t play against Sevilla because he needed to undergo intensive recovery,“ he explained
“We discussed it internally within the club and then sent the report, which the RFEF accepted. It’s normal for Lamine to speak with the national team coach. De la Fuente spoke with Gavi to inquire about the injury.
“We spoke with Karanka and it was a very easy topic. You just have to put yourself in the other person’s shoes a little. If Lamine returns from the national team and can’t play, it’s normal that Flick doesn’t like it.”
The current hope is that Yamal will be able to return after the international break and could even feature as a substitute in the team’s first game back against Girona.
