Vincent Kompany’s collapse and subsequent hospitalization, as well as the tragedy that befell Joshua Kimmich’s family, have overshadowed the past week for Bayern Munich. However, the club was unable to put footballing matters behind them to focus entirely on the tragedies as the fixtures came thick and fast. Kimmich’s family emergency happened just before the 2-2 draw against Arsenal FC, and Kompany’s collapse came just two days before the trip to SC Freiburg.
Bayern emerged as 3-1 victors on the
night and was happy with the three points, but it also prioritized sending messages of support to their affected comrades. Jonas Urbig was the latest to offer such encouragement, sharing the following statement (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
“We are a collective on the pitch, everyone attacks and everyone defends. Things are similar off the pitch – we have a good cohesion, everyone supports everyone, no matter how difficult the situation is and what each individual is going through. We stand together, not only this week, but especially this week. I wish all the best to those who were affected,” said Urbig.
One hopes Kompany and Kimmich will recover from their respective ordeals as well and as soon as possible.
