The Michigan Wolverines officially wrapped up their 2026 recruiting class on Thursday. With 26 players signing on the dotted line, the future of the program looks to be in good hands as Sherrone Moore
put together a Top-15 ranked class (No. 11 overall on the 247Sports composite).
Among the very best of the best in the entire class is five-star running back Savion Hiter. The No. 1 running back and No. 8 overall player, Hiter chose the Wolverines over Ohio State, Georgia and Tennessee back in August. He was one of the last members of the class to sign — doing so on Thursday — but after a day of panic from some in the Maize n Brew comments section, he is now officially a Wolverine.
Fans have every right to be excited about his potential, as he should be able to get onto the field early and often as a freshman. One of the biggest recruiting websites also believes that to be the case; Rivals put together a list of instant impact players, and Hiter was one of the two selections for his position.
Here is what Rivals had to say about Hiter:
“When a team signs the number one prospect at their position, it’s highly likely that they have an opportunity to make an instant impact the moment they arrive on campus. But when the prospect is running back Savion Hiter and his future home is Ann Arbor, Michigan, you can virtually guarantee he is going to walk in and immediately contribute. The nearly 6-foot, 205-plus pound Rivals five-star back has elite vision and make-you-miss ability with an excellent build that should have zero issue adding weight while maintaining his athletic ability. If Justice Haynes declares early for the NFL Draft, Hiter should begin his career providing a strong 1-2 punch with Jordan Marshall. But even if Haynes were to stay for another year, as the third back in the rotation, Hiter should still be a contributor and Michigan would have arguably the best running back room in the entire country.”
Hiter had an outstanding senior year of football at Louisa County High School in Virginia, running for at least 1,207 yards and 18 touchdowns, per his MGoBlue profile. On top of that, he had a great junior season where he racked up 1,698 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns, as well as 199 receiving yards, and three touchdowns on kickoff returns.
His talent is undeniable, and with the way Michigan has developed players at his position over the years, it appears Hiter is coming just to the right place.
