The NFL’s crop of starting quarterbacks is changing at a break-neck pace, including 6 games on the L.A. Rams 2025 schedule against a team that has a different starter than they did to start 2024. Since the Rams traded Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford in 2021, over 20 teams have made a change at quarterback, not including Detroit and L.A.. And most of those teams got younger at the position. Significantly younger.
As a matter of fact, of the 14 unique starting quarterbacks scheduled to play against
the Rams in 2025, only two of them have had their 30th birthday yet and thy oldest name is Jared Goff.
- Matthew Stafford is 37 and 193 days old.
- Goff, the oldest QB on L.A.’s schedule, is 30 and 309 days old.
- Baker Mayfield is also 30, but younger than Goff
- The average of the Rams 2025 schedule QBs is: 26.5 years old.
That makes Stafford over 10 years older than the average QB on the Rams schedule. Coincidentally, Goff, Stafford, and Mayfield have all played for Sean McVay in L.A..

Average Age
With Daniel Jones named as the starter over Anthony Richardson, it brings up the average age a tick. Eight of the games, including Brock Purdy twice, are against quarterbacks who are 25 or younger.
We also know that quarterbacks get hurt or benched, so this list is sure to be different by the end of the season. However, we can’t be certain if the replacements will be older, younger, or the same age. The most likely suspects to make a start against the Rams would be these players:
- QB Anthony Richardson (23)
- QB Kirk Cousins (37) (It’s his birthday today)
- QB Jacoby Brissett (32)
- QB Drew Lock (28)
- QB Mac Jones (27)
*Assuming any NFC West team is twice as likely to make a change on the schedule than a team that the Rams only play once.
What does it all mean?
We know that the Rams have two first round picks in 2026. We know that they’re one of the teams that hasn’t made an effort to get a talented young backup or replacement in quite a few years. The Rams willingly got 7 years older when they traded for Stafford and it paid off with a Super Bowl championship. How much longer until Les Snead and Sean McVay feel that the timing is right to take that chance that they decided not to take with a quarterback like Jaxson Dart?
We will find out next year. When Stafford will be 38.
