Behind a championship performance in the women’s javelin and three new program records, Missouri opened the SEC Outdoor Championships with a strong showing Thursday, May 14, in Auburn, Ala.
Women’s Javelin Throw Remarks
Valentina Barrios Bornacelli claimed the women’s javelin title with a first place throw of 58.31 meters. Her remarkable result was a new season best by over two meters.
Alongside her, Skylar Ciccolini took fourth overall with a mark of 55.54 meters. Morgan Cannon claimed 10th with her new season best of 48.18 meters.
Val Galligan came in 12th and Adrienne Russell took 13th with her new personal best throw of 46.79 meters. Marysa Flieg claimed 14th, and Nora Hark achieved a new personal best of 45.58 meters. In 16th, Lexi Craig claimed a new personal best of 45.44 meters. Rounding it out for the Tigers in 21st was Kiyah Blast.
Men’s Hammer Throw of Program Bests
Sam Innes delivered a standout performance in the men’s hammer throw, earning silver with a personal-best mark of 71.65 meters that moved him to No. 2 in Mizzou history in the event.
Garik Pozecki followed in 11th with his new personal best mark of 63.99 meters. This result secured Mizzou’s No.6 all time in the event. Rounding it out for the Tigers was Clayton Kamp, with a 15th place mark of 55.42 meters.
Women’s Hammer Throw Achievements
Petra Gombas took eighth in the women’s hammer throw, with a mark of 61.43 meters. Her stellar result ranks 7th all-time in program history in this event.
Alongside her, Kaitlyn Morningstar took 17th overall, with her new personal best of 54.62 meters. Rounding it out for the Tigers was Reagan Kimrey in 19th, with her throw of 51.83 meters.
Utecht’s Day One Heptathlon Results
Brianna Utecht opened her heptathlon competition with a ninth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 14.08. She then recorded a season-best mark of 1.65 meters in the high jump, placing sixth overall. In the shot put, Utecht finished fifth with a throw of 12.70 meters. She closed out the day with an 11th-place finish in the 200 meters, posting a time of 25.72.
Women’s 800-Meter Preliminaries
Charlotte Cullen took 16th overall in the race, with her new personal best of 2:07.45. Alongside her, Morgan Yeomans claimed 19th and Brianna Lee took 22nd.
Men’s 400-Meter Hurdles Preliminaries
Dillon Leacock came in 15th overall in his 400-meter hurdles race, with a time of 53.18.
Men’s 10,000 Meters
Tyler Freiner claimed 20th in the men’s 10,000 meters, crossing the line with a time of 30:57.42.

What’s Next for Day Two
The Tigers will continue with the SEC Outdoor Championships for the second day, with loads of events to look out for.
Utecht will wrap up her heptathlon competition in the 800 meters, long jump and javelin throw before the final standings are announced.
Meanwhile, Marlena Tresnjo is set to compete in the women’s high jump after moving to No. 5 in Mizzou history with her performance at the Drake Relays.
In the men’s shot put, Chase Crawford and Sam Albert will represent the Tigers.
Mizzou will also have a strong presence in the women’s 1,500-meter preliminaries, with Brianna Lee, Kobi Walker, Morgan Yeomans, Charlotte Cullen, Suzy Lecoutre, Allison Newman and Monica Wanjiku all scheduled to compete. On the men’s side, Joseph Bariola, Carter Spradling, Finnian Russell, Lasse Funck and Drew Rogers will race in the 1,500-meter preliminaries.
Elsewhere on the track, Robert Hines will compete in the men’s 100-meter dash preliminaries, while Elijah Limo and Joshua Allison are slated for the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
