Monday notes…
- WIN AND LOSE, PART 1: The Cubs have alternated wins and losses in their last six games. They have not lost two in a row in their last 18, since July 9 at Baltimore and July 10 at Cincinnati. They are 11-7 since then. They have not won more than two in a row since July 5-8, when they beat the Cardinals at home, then won twice at Baltimore. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)
- WIN AND LOSE, PART 2: The Cubs are 28-24 in games against opponents who have had a winning record going the game. They are 14-9 at home. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)
- DAY AND NIGHT: The Cubs already have lost more night games at home this season than they did all of last season. They finished 21-11 a year ago. This year, they are 14-12. They were 12-4 last season in night games at home after day games. This year, they are 6-5. The Cubs also already have more losses in first games of series at home, going 8-10. They finished last season 19-8. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)
- TODAY IN CUBS HISTORY: The Cubs score three in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly, bases-loaded walk and wild pitch and defeat the Marlins 5-4 after trailing 4-1 going to the bottom of the eighth. It happened 10 years ago today, Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016.
The Cubs lineup was not available at posting time. Please check BCB social media for the Cubs lineup.
Dodgers lineup:
Matthew Boyd, LHP vs. Justin Wrobleski, LHP
In seven starts since he returned from his knee injury, Matthew Boyd has a 1.93 ERA and 1.143 WHIP, with only four home runs allowed in 42 innings. That’s just outstanding, and he’s allowed one or no runs in each of his last three starts.
He has not faced the Dodgers this year. Last year, on April 11, 2025 at Dodger Stadium,
he allowed three runs to L.A. in six innings.
Boyd is one of the hottest pitchers in MLB right now. Let’s hope he keeps it going.
Other Dodgers starters get a lot more attention, but Justin Wrobleski has been a very good pitcher in the Dodgers rotation all year — 18 games (17 starts), 2.88 ERA, 1.021 WHIP, leading the NL in walk rate.
He threw six shutout innings against the Cubs April 26 at Dodger Stadium. He did get hit hard by the Mariners in his last start July 28 (five runs in six innings).

The 2026 game discussion procedure has been changed, so please take note.
You’ll find the game preview, like this one, posted separately on the front page two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).
At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page, titled “Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of week/date) game threads.” It will contain every post related to that particular game.
The Live! (formerly “First Pitch”) thread will still post at five minutes to game time. It will also post to the front page. That will be the only live game discussion thread. After the game, the recap and Heroes and Goats will also live on the front page as separate posts.
You will also be able to find the preview, Live! thread, recap and Heroes and Goats in this section link. The StoryStream for each game can also be found in that section.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
