Coming off arguably his worst game of his storied career, Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers finally looked like he’d lost a step. He finished just 16-31, tossing 161 yards, a TD, and two picks in a blowout loss
to the Chargers — and his lack of mobility was certainly concerning. Prior to this contest, I think many were on board with him returning to the team in 2026, including former Steelers DT Tyson Alualu.
Alualu joined “The Sick Podcast – Steelers Crazy,” and was asked about a potential reunion between the veteran signal-caller and the black and gold:
“Just off of talks that I’ve had with people, and from what I see on Sundays, I do see it kind of lasting more than this year, if he wants to,” said the recently retired former first-round pick.
“I’ve talked to Aaron a few times, teammates that have him – they love him. When I talked to him at Cam’s (Heyward) golf event before the season, I left with a good feeling. This is somebody who’s out to prove still that he is all in. When you have somebody of that caliber and that resume that’s bought in to what we’re trying to do here, and extra-motivated because a lot of people are doubting him,” said Alualu.
Two notes that provide a bit more context: Alualu still lives in the Pittsburgh area and has season tickets to the games – so he’s often at the facilities. He also went to Cal, and although he wasn’t there at the same time as Rodgers, the two had a few run-ins – so I do think there’s some legitimacy to his comments.
Obviously, the situation is quite fluid, and likely dependent on how the rest of the season plays out, in terms of health and or success. However, given the overall temperament of his teammates, coupled with his mostly above-average play, I think they’d welcome him back in 2026, as of now.
