The New England Patriots take the practice fields on Saturday for their first training camp practice of the summer.
As competition starts across the roster, several spots on the depth chart are left to be filled out. Among them is the edge group, where Harold Landry III was placed on the PUP list and rookie Gabe Jacas remains unsigned.
Patriots fans view that edge group as the most interesting camp competition on the roster. In the results of the latest SB Nation Reacts survey, 43% of participants
said that they would be watching that positional group.
All in all, this week’s survey results look as follows:
The Patriots did sign veteran Dre’Mont Jones to a three-year contract worth $39.5 million this offseason while Mike Vrabel and the coaching staff have remained high on second-year pass rushers Elijah Ponder and Bradyn Swinson.
“I think we’ve got a lot of guys that are going to take advantage of the opportunity, that they’re going to earn reps and continue to improve,” Vrabel said Friday. “Some young guys that we had on the roster last year and some players that we’ve added in free agency.”
Elsewhere on the roster, 20% of participants are looking at the third running back battle behind TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson. 18% of voters are looking at other spots such as wide receiver, while nine percent of participants are worried about the defensive depth on the second and third levels of the defense.
Even with questions to answer this summer across the roster, New England has positioned themselves to get back to the Super Bowl this season. Currently, the Patriots have the eighth highest odds on FanDuel Sportsbook to win Super Bowl LXI — the fifth highest odds in the AFC.
