Ohio State hits the road for another big time conference clash this weekend, and though the coaching staff is prioritizing Illinois and rightfully so, Wednesday proved recruiting is still atop of their
minds. Offering multiple new names in the future recruiting cycles, the Buckeyes and their recruiting machine rarely quit, and this week is no different.
Working hard to secure the best 2026 class possible late into the game, building the 2027 and 2028 classes is right there on the big board of needs. Wednesday was a step in the right direction for displaying the efforts needed to win these top targets.
A priority area as of late, the Buckeyes have made the Chicago suburbs worth their time with tons of talent ripe for the picking. Producing high level players within the Big Ten footprint, it only makes sense to see the Buckeyes hard at work in a nearby hotbed, and hopefully that means multiple recruiting wins down the line.
Starting with Darieon Prescott, Ohio State made its presence known in Bolingbrook yesterday by offering the 2028 standout edge rusher who is really gaining some attention in his recruitment. A 6-foot-6, 220 pound athlete with still two full seasons left of prep football to play, Prescott is currently the No. 26 player nationally and fourth ranked edge rusher per the 247Sports Composite.
Nearly 20 offers to his name thus far, Ohio State entering the mix is arguably his biggest offer to date, joining the likes of Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Tennessee. With the Buckeyes as close as they are in proximity, it will be a goal to see him early and often knowing his stock and his position of importance.
Another one for good measure, popular prep program Brother Rice had Ohio State looking around, and Kameron McGee was the next in line to receive the good news from the Buckeyes. A 6-foot-3, 235 pound prospect, like Prescott, McGee is another atop of the charts when it comes to his current recruiting profile.
The No. 8 player nationally and second best edge rusher in the 2028 class per the 247Sports Composite, Illinois has multiple guys the coaching staff for Ohio State will be all over for the long haul. Plenty of schools to choose from early on, the Buckeyes entering the fold means something to McGee, and now it’s a goal to have him on campus to get him familiar with all that the Buckeyes have to offer.
Edge rusher being a critical need for every cycle, Ohio State looks to be doing their due diligence now so they have multiple options they are in a good place with. Arguably an area in the last few cycles that could have gone better, it looks as if the staff is making sure that doesn’t happen again.
Sticking with 2028 edge rushers, Ohio State not only made two offers in Illinois yesterday, but also in Arizona as well to another talented player in the future cycle. Another area the Buckeyes tend to have success in, Arizona is producing talent maybe more than ever before, and Ohio State has seen the benefit of recruiting the Southwest as hard as they do.
Players such as Lathan Ransom and Denzel Burke jump out as recent wins, but looking ahead they too will try the same with Jalanie George now that an offer has been sent out. A 6-foot-5, 245 pound athlete, George is drawing incredible attention early on in his recruitment and for obvious reasons. The No. 2 player nationally and top edge rusher per the 247Sports Composite, no wonder Ohio State felt it time to throw their name into the ring.
Offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida, LSU, Miami, Oregon, Tennessee, and a host of others, Ohio State being in the mix from here on is a no brainer. Clearly increasing the list of guys they’re after, Larry Johnson has no shortage of early options to make priorities.
