It didn’t take long for Adrian Autry to land another job. The former Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team’s head coach will be staying in the ACC and can keep his orange and blue Nikes.
Adrian Autry is joining the Virginia Cavaliers to become an assistant coach under Ryan Odom, the team announced Thursday in a news release. Autry and Odom previously worked as assistants for several years during their time with Virginia Tech under then-head coach Seth Greenberg.
“I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity
to join Coach Odom and the Virginia men’s basketball program. This is a new chapter for me, and I am ready to get to work,” Autry wrote in the release.
Autry finished 49-48 overall during his three years as the head coach of the Orange, before he and the program parted ways in March. Prior to being the head coach, he worked for over a decade as an assistant and then associate head coach under Jim Boeheim.
Odom and the Cavaliers finished second in the regular season in the ACC this past year. Virginia ended up going 30-6 overall and 15-3 in conference play in 2025-26, earning an NCAA Tournament bid as a three-seed and advancing to the Second Round.
Something to watch is that Autry’s son Trey has declared his intention to enter the transfer portal.
Will he end up moving down the road to Charlottesville and will any Syracuse players join Autry?
We wish Autry the best of luck on his next coaching gig.
