There is no love lost between former college roomies Jon Jones and Colby Covington.
Ever since Covington starting talking wild s—t in public constantly, “Bones” has been a consistent source of inspiration for his trash talk. Any Jones controversy guarantees a Covington comment, as “Chaos” will stop at nothing to ensure everybody in the world knows that Jones is a “horrible person.” Meanwhile, Jones has fired back on many occasions, particularly whenever the semi-retired Covington tasted defeat in the Octagon.
Most recently, Covington criticized Jones’ involvement with Gable Steveson. Per Covington, Jones’ negative energy contributed to the loss, and he also blamed “Bones” for moving Steveson away from his wrestling base. Whatever the reason, Jones’ protege just got knocked out cold as one of the biggest favorites in UFC history, and a lot of fingers are pointing at the former UFC double champion.
About two weeks later, Jones has gone on social media to fire back.
“It’s funny that you blame Gable’s loss on my ‘negative energy,’” Jones wrote on X. “Meanwhile, I’m an undefeated fighter living the absolute American dream. Before he was caught, our guy had finished every opponent in the first round. Your logic doesn’t make any sense.
“I also find it funny that you, of all people, are commenting on my supposedly negative energy. I travel the world alone and get mobbed by fans, while you need full-time security in your own country. You come out once a quarter to do an interview about me and what a terrible person I am. Boy, you’re obsessed with me. A blind man could see that.
“We started off in the same dorm room, yet I’ve earned and achieved literally ten times more than you have. I genuinely hope that one day you start to feel better. It sucks to even have to address you. … again”
After the initial respone, Jones also posted a picture of Covington’s infamous broken jaw, which occurred during his first title fight versus Kamaru Usman. Jones added on, “Colby, I think your deep hatred is directed at the wrong Black guy. It was Usman who broke your face, not me.”
Sadly, there will never likely be any confrontation between Covington and Jones, not even on the RAF mats. The size difference is just too massive, so barring some kind of street altercation, this beef is likely to remain on social media only.
