As Feast Week is upon us, there were several standout performances from the week leading up to the holiday. That includes five players who are finalists for our Women’s Player of the Week honor, which
you can vote on at the bottom of this article.
They are the following: Fordham’s Alexis Black, Richmond’s Maggie Doogan, Western Illinois’s Mia Nicastro, Bryant’s Nia Scott and Howard’s Zennia Thomas.
Black averaged 31.0 points, 5.5 assists and four rebounds per game. The Rams’ guard shot 50% from the field, 47.6% from behind the arc and 93.3% from the line. She scored a program-record 42 points in in a double overtime loss at Seton Hall. That’s the third-most points scored in a game by any Division I player this season. The Washington, D.C., native recorded 20 points, seven assists and four rebounds in a bounce-back win over Manhattan.
Doogan has been a finalist each of the three weeks so far this season. The forward averaged 24 points, 14 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 42.1% from deep. The Broomall, Penn., native just missed a triple-double with 31 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists in the Spiders’ 72-57 win over Temple. She hit six 3-pointers in the game. Doogan then had 17 points and 14 rebounds in a 69-56 home win over Navy. Doogan leads the A-10 with 24.4 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists per game this season.
Nicastro averaged 28 points and 13 rebounds a game over two wins. She shot 60% (21-for-35) from the field. The senior from St. Charles, Mo., notched career-highs with 33 points and 17 rebounds against Chicago State. She then had 23 points and nine rebounds against Bradley. The forward is second in the nation at 26.3 points per game and 10th in rebounding (11.3 rpg).
Scott compiled 20.5 points, 12 rebounds and four assists per game in a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs. She had 25 points and 18 rebounds in an 80-73 win over Merrimack, which was the third 25 and 17+ game in DI this season. The junior from Medford Lakes, N.J., then registered 16 points, six rebounds and six assists in a win over Stonehill.
Thomas played three games last week and averaged 21.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. She opened the week with 25 points and eight rebounds at VCU. The Cleveland native then had 18 points and 10 rebounds in a win over William & Mary. She ended the week with 21 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks against Monmouth.
