The Tennessee Titans have a difficult showdown versus the surging 4-2 Cleveland Browns in Week 7. Despite the record, the Browns have been rather average, and the Titans should appreciate their chances to play a close, competitive contest. We’ve identified five players who need to thrive for Robert Saleh’s squad to execute an upset victory.
DT Jeffery Simmons
Jeffery Simmons was outstanding versus the Colts, registering two sacks. He also forced a fumble that he recovered; it kickstarted the comeback. Now, Simmons gets
another quarterback in Deshaun Watson who is mistake-prone and likes holding onto the football instead of throwing it in efficient fashion.
WR Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate was excellent in Week 6, recording six receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown. The rookie fourth overall selection also drew a significant pass interference penalty that flipped the field (roughly 35 yards). The last time Tate broke out (Ravens, Week 4), the Titans failed to build on his momentum. They can’t repeat that mistake versus the Browns.
S Amani Hooker
Veteran safety Amani Hooker leads the Titans in interceptions with two. HIs takeaway versus the Colts showcased some savvy footwork and hand-eye coordination on a tipped Daniel Jones pass near the sideline. Hooker nearly had three INTs against the Browns. His ballhawking ways could generate another turnover against Watson.
QB Cam Ward
Quarterback Cam Ward was carried by the defense and special teams throughout the Colts win. The sophomore No. 1 overall pick was just 11-of-22 for 102 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Browns have an excellent defense, so Ward and the below-average passing attack will be tested.
LB Anthony Hill Jr.
Titans rookie linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. has been a complete revelation this season. While Cody Barton and Cedric Gray continue competing for reps opposite him, Hill has been the Titans’ only constant at linebacker. He continues showcasing sideline-to-sideline ability while being an asset both versus the pass and run.
