Right now Jessica Pegula is one of the best tennis players in the world — could acting owner of the Buffalo Bills be in her future?
Since her parents, Terry and Kim Pegula, bought the team in 2014, Jessica has climbed the tennis world rankings all the way to No. 3 — which is her current ranking. She has 11 singles titles in her career and has been a major tournament semifinalist four times.
Now 32, Pegula is still clearly in the prime of her tennis career, but she was recently asked about her post-playing
career in a recent CNBC interview:
“I can’t say that wouldn’t be exciting if I got to help out with the organization one day. I always thought that I wanted to be in the sporting world when I was done with tennis.”
Probably more importantly than Pegula’s quote is this sentence from the CNBC writer, Alex Sherman:
Pegula said that despite the record high valuations and the recent team sales, she wouldn’t want her family to sell the teams they own.
That, of course, is huge. Her father is 75 years old. After a tragic cardiac arrest episode, her mother Kim had to step down from her role as the CEO of Pegula Sports and Entertainment. She was very active in everything Bills and Sabres before her medical event.
Technically, as one of the heirs to Bills ownership, it’s vital that Jessica is interested in future involvement in the team. She has four siblings — two brothers and two sisters. Laura, Terry’s daughter from his first marriage, started to attend league meetings with her dad as early as 2023, but her exact role with the team is unknown.
While the rest of the Pegula children can be spotted around the team from time to time, there’s been nothing official or on the record about their interest in future involvement with the team.
While nothing definitive, Jessica’s comments should nonetheless serve as a positive development for the Bills staying in the Pegula family long-term.
