Maryland tennis’ historic season continued to blossom Monday as the Terps earned a spot in the NCAA tournament for the first time in 15 years.
The news comes after the Terps punched their ticket to their first-ever Big Ten tournament semifinal by upsetting then-No. 2-seed USC 4-2 Friday. Despite falling in the semis to eventual conference champion Michigan, Maryland did
enough to impress the selection committee in its best season to date.
Sophomore Emma Ghirardato was a driving force for the entirety of the conference tournament, becoming the sole Terp to land on the Big Ten all-tournament team. Ghirardato has put together a strong campaign this season, anchoring the No. 2 singles spot while holding down the top doubles spot for most of 2026.
Maryland was handed a favorable matchup to start, facing 12-12 South Carolina in the opening round of the 64-team national tournament. The Terps will face the Gamecocks on May 1 at 1 p.m. in North Carolina.
