The Patriots scored a critical touchdown against the Jets in their Week 11 win just about halfway through the third quarter. The touchdown came as the result of some pretty clear miscommunication.
It came
on a second and five from the Jets’ six yard line.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. initially lines up on the left side of the defensive/right side of the offensive formation.
The Patriots, however, line up two receivers to the other side of the formation. Brandon Stephens is the only corner on that side so Brownlee ends up needing to hurry to the other side.
As Brownlee arrives, he and Stephens are trying to communicate.
However, Drake Maye quick snaps it.
The frustrating part of this play is that Brownlee actually does a good initial job of jamming TreVeyon Henderson within the first five yards of the line of scrimmage.
This makes Maye progress past Henderson and onto Stefon Diggs.
The problem is both Stephens and Brownlee fly in Diggs’ direction, and nobody picks up Henderson.

The play ends with Henderson’s first receiving touchdown of the game after adding a pair of rushing touchdowns in the first half. The Jets were down two scores. The way the team is struggling on offense, that was going to be an insurmountable deficit.
