
Columbus Clippers (52-67) – AAA
OMA 5 – COL 4
George Valera is back and should be on a plane to Arlington as soon as possible. The Columbus Clippers may have fallen to the Omaha Storm Chasers, but it was still an exciting game across the board.
Ryan Webb got the start for Columbus throwing 5.2IP, 4H, 2R/ER, 3BB, and 5K. Matt Krook finished the sixth inning and pitched the seventh without allowing a hit or run. Krook walked two and struck out four in his 1.1 innings of work. Trevor Stephan pitched the eighth, blowing the save and earning the loss.
In three hits Stephan gave up 3R/ER and struck out one. Franco Aleman closed out the game striking out one, but keeping it hitless and scoreless.
While the Clippers couldn’t come back in the ninth to walk it off, it was still a great night for Columbus hitters. Petey Halpin went 4-for-5 with 2R and a HR in the lead off spot. Travis Bazzana went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a walk. Jhonkensy Noel went 2-for-2 with 1R and two walks. The star of the night was George Valera who went 4-for-4, hitting for the cycle!
Akron RubberDucks (69-48) – AA
NH 3 – AKR 7
After a shaky start from pitcher Josh Hartle, the RubberDucks bullpen locked in giving Akron the chance to rally back and take the victory. Hartle went 4.0IP, 7H, 3R/ER, 2BB, 2K. Alaska Abney went 2.0IP of one hit ball, striking out one. Tyler Thorton went 2.0IP, 1BB, and 3Ks. Davis Sharpe closed the game of hitless, scoreless ball with two strikeouts.
After giving up a quick lead in the top of the first, the RubberDucks answered back. Ralphy Velazquez hit a two-out single to left and Alfonsin Rosario launch a home run to right center to put Akron up 2-1.
In the bottom of the second, Jonah Advincula hit a lead off single. Christian Knapczyk slapped his first home RBI to extend the RubberDucks lead. With the game tied in the bottom of the fourth Akron kept the runs coming. Cameron Barstad hit a lead off single. With one out and runners on second and third, Alex Mooney hit a 2-run single to center, giving Akron the lead again. In the bottom of the seventh Christian Knapczyk drew a lead off walk. Wuilfredo Antunez singled to put another runner on. Ralphy Velazquez singled to center to score Knapczyk.
Velazquez and Antunez attempted a double steal, but Ralphy was caught at second. Alfonsin Rosario drew a walk to put runners on the corners with one out. Joe Lampe grounded out to short, allowing Antunez to score from third for Akron’s final run of the game.
Lake County Captains (68-50) – High A
FW 3 – LC 5
The Captains won it behind strong defense and active offense. Caden Favors got the start and went 5.0IP in his 7th win of the season with Lake County. Favors gave up 3R/2ER on 4H, 3BB, and struck out two. A throwing error by the third baseman accounted for the unearned run in the second inning. Sean Matson earned the save, pitching the remainder of the game. Matson didn’t allow a run, but gave up 1H and 2BB. He struck out three.
Jaison Chourio went 2-for-4 with a run. Ryan Cesarini went 4-for-4 with a run. Johnny Tincher went 2-for-4 with a double. Nick Mitchell, Estaban González, Jose Devers, and Jeffery Mercedes all recoded a hit each. All five runs came in the bottom of the third for the Caps. González doubled to left to lead off the inning. Jaison Chourio singled, but González was thrown out at home trying to score. A wild pitch allowed Chourio to advance to second. With one out and a runner in scoring position, Ryan Cesarini singled to third. Jose Devers hit an RBI single to left, scoring Chourio. A throwing error allowed Johnny Tincher to reach and Cesarini to score. Jeffrey Mercedes homered to right, scoring three.
Lynchburg Hillcats (63-52) – Single A
LYN 6 – HIC 4
Joey Oakie got the start for the Hillcats. He pitched 4.2IP, 3H, 2R/ER, 4BB, and struck out 3. Angel Perez gave up two runs in his 2.1 innings of work. Perez walked three and struck out one. Cam Schuelke earned his third win with the Hillcats in his 2.0 innings of hitless, scoreless work. He walked one and struck out three.
The Hillcats were scoring all game with Luke Hill and Aaron Walton both hitting their first professional home runs.
Juneiker Caceres went 1-for-4 with a single. Luis Merejo went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a double. Luke Hill went 2-for-3 with 2R, HR, and a BB.
