The Dallas Cowboys draft class for 2026 is in the books. Let’s do a brief recap of what they got before getting to the grade.
Caleb Downs is the jewel of the draft class. He will become the quarterback of the defense and will slide between multiple roles in Christian Parker’s defense. Edge Malachi Lawrence was brought in to bring some juice back to the Cowboys pass rush which felt labored in 2025. Third-round pick Jaishawn Lawrence is going to play off-ball linebacker to start, but will likely see
time at many of the linebacker spots, including edge.
Offensive tackle Drew Shelton is insurance behind an offensive tackle position that has issues. Devin Moore is more competition in a crowded but shaky cornerback room. Defensive lineman LT Overton is a versatile run stuffer who will add grit to the defensive line. The Cowboys went for speed with their last pick, bringing in wide receiver Anthony Smith.
In our earlier grade looks, both our own David Howman, and many around the internet gave the team high marks with plenty of ‘A’ grades.
How did you guys see it? Not quite as enthusiastically. While 51% of respondents gave it an ‘A’ grade, 40% gave it a ‘B’ grade, a pretty big number.
Let’s hear the argument for the ‘A’ grades and the ‘non-A’ grades in the comments.
