Conor McGregor and Max Holloway are wasting no time beginning the promotion for their highly anticipated rematch, which headlines UFC 329 on July 11 in Las Vegas.
The fight was announced by UFC CEO Dana White on Saturday night as McGregor’s long awaited comeback was confirmed as the Irish superstar seeks to return to action for the first time in five years after recovering from a gruesome broken leg suffered in his last outing against Dustin Poirier in 2021. Of course, McGregor rarely bites his tongue
about any subject but he was quick to take aim at Holloway, who he defeated by unanimous decision in their initial meeting back in 2013.
“I’m going to son you, child. Again,” McGregor wrote on social media. “You’re going to put respect on my motherf*cking name.”
McGregor won the first fight against Holloway despite suffering a torn ACL in his knee during the three-round battle. Holloway was also dealing with a severe ankle injury that night so neither fighter was at their absolute best that night.
Add to that, McGregor was only in his second UFC fight when he battled Holloway so he was a long way from reaching his greatest heights as a two-division champion.
The same really goes for Holloway, who dropped the decision to McGregor but then went on a remarkable 13 fight win streak while winning and defending the UFC featherweight title along the way.
Now they are running it back and Holloway expressed confidence that he’s going to get his revenge when he finally faces McGregor again in July.
“Nah big dog you gonna put some respect on my name,” Holloway wrote in response. “We gonna find out Saturday night.”
It’s safe to say McGregor vs. Holloway 2 is going to end up as one of the biggest fights of the year and it’s likely this isn’t the last exchange these two share before getting in the octagon together on July 11.
