Despite The Smashing Machine’s poor performance at the box office, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson remained hopeful that his critically-acclaimed performance as MMA pioneer Mark Kerr would result in a win at the Academy Awards for best lead actor.
The Rock’s Oscar campaign looked like it was running out of steam after he was nominated but failed to win at the Golden Globes earlier this month. The fatal blow was delivered this morning at the 98th Oscars Nominations when Johnson wasn’t listed among the nominees
for Actor in a Leading Role. Here are the Hollywood stars who made the cut over The Rock:
- Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle after Another)
- Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme)
- Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent)
- Michael B. Jordan (Sinners)
- Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon)
The Smashing Machine did receive a nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Do you think The Rock ever had a serious chance to be nominated or actually win at this year’s Academy Awards? Will Dwayne respond to his latest Hollywood defeat by returning to WWE for a Slammy Award winning performance as The Final Boss on the road to WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas?
Give me your thoughts on what’s next for The Rock in the comments below, Cagesiders.
