- In a recent article by NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson, Steph Curry reveals how he stays motivated entering his 17th NBA season.
- Warriors players reveal who were their basketball heroes and inspirations as a kid.
- Former NBA All-Star John Wall announced his retirement on Tuesday.
Hard work has always defined Steph Curry’s journey. From the undersized, overlooked prospect at Davidson to the perennial MVP candidate who revolutionized the game, he has relied on a love for the work to sustain his success.
Now at 37 years old, Curry continues to chase greatness. Despite having accomplished nearly everything in basketball going into his 17-year NBA career, he tells NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson that his internal drive keeps him as motivated as ever to win another championship
for the Golden State Warriors.
“I would think that there’s not enough external motivators to bring the drive that I need to do what I do, and have the gratitude to be able to do what I do,” Steph Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area in an exclusive interview. “It all comes from just a drive and a spirit and a wisdom of knowing what I need to do to prepare my body and challenge myself. But I still love it.
“It’s funny, it’s my job, right. It’s what I get to do, and the work that I put into it, whether you see it on social media or not, it’s all a part of the process.”
Curry put together another strong season last year, averaging 24.5 points, 6.0 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 70 games while shooting 39.7 percent from three and 44.8 percent from the field. His efficiency ticked up in the postseason, where he hit 40 percent of his threes and 47.7 percent overall across eight games before a hamstring injury brought his run to an early end.
Even with a quiet offseason, the Warriors still carry a clear identity around their veteran core of Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. That trio helped fuel a strong finish last year and left the sense that more was possible if not for injuries. It’s that unfinished business that keeps Curry pushing forward, sharpening his craft and embracing the daily grind in pursuit of another championship.

Warriors star Steph Curry racing against time for fifth NBA championship ring | NBC Sports Bay Area
“So many unpredictable things that happen during a year,” Curry said. “Can you get your identity and your style of play and your team committed to that? Last year, we were chasing a little towards the end of the year to try and get out of the play-in. Then from there, we gave it a great run in the playoffs, just didn’t work out.
“Just trying to be in a position where we’re somewhere in the top of the Western Conference throughout the vibe and not have to be on the gas pedal all the way down the stretch, and hopefully we’re all healthy come April.”
Steph Curry pushes on toward Oakland’s future with community at his core | NBC Sports Bay Area
Under Armour and Curry Brand have renovated six basketball courts in Oakland over the past year. Curry Brand refurbished the basketball court of McClymonds High School, the home of Bill Russell, ahead of the All-Star Game.
“I’ve been out here going on 17 years,” Curry said. “It’s our adopted home, the community that has supported me, my wife, my family this entire time and now we have an opportunity to understand what basketball can open in terms of resources, network and the ability to impact and plant our flag in Oakland.
2025-26 NBA Milestones: Which superstar will conquer the stat sheet this season? | ESPN
Stephen Curry should be cooking again in his 17th season with the Warriors. Curry is 292 3-pointers away (regular season and playoffs combined) from becoming the first player with 5,000 3s. But we might not see this mark hit until later in the season, as he hit 311 regular-season 3s last season alone and 357 the season before.
Why some Warriors’ West Coast games will start late this season | The Mercury News
The league office also highlighted that starting games on time is a point of emphasis, as the NBA has been panned for its late tipoff times in recent years. NBC, which has been the local provider for Warriors games locally since 2011, will be the only company allowed to broadcast nationally on Tuesday, taking over the slot long held by TNT.

Carlisle, 65, was rewarded with the extension after leading the Pacers to the NBA Finals this past June, their first since 2000, in his second go-around with the team as a head coach (he won the Eastern Conference Championship in 1999-2000 as an assistant with Indiana).

Was there any doubt The Joker would rank No. 1 among NBA talents who could lift the EuroBasket trophy next month? Jokić had the highest RAPTOR during the 2024-25 regular season, a distinction he has held for five consecutive seasons. Now he’ll lead a Serbian squad that is a heavy favorite to win the tournament at ESPN BET and likely extra motivated after blowing a 13-point lead heading into the fourth quarter of last summer’s Olympic semifinal loss to the United States.

In case you missed it at Golden State of Mind:
Can Moses Moody work his way back into the Warriors rotation?
Which leads us to the question: can he return to being a rotation piece in 2025-26, his fifth NBA season? The answer certainly needs to be “yes,” or the Warriors are in a world of trouble, both financially and from a roster-building perspective. And there’s really no reason to think the answer is anything but that. Yet oddly enough, it will probably take Moody taking a step backwards in order for his role to be reprised.
