The New England Patriots were set to release interior offensive lineman Caedan Wallace on Monday, but they were able to eventually find a buyer for the former third-round draft pick. The Miami Dolphins picked him up, sending a 2028 sixth-rounder to Foxborough for Wallace and a 2029 seventh-round selection.

Bernd Buchmasser: Wallace’s tenure as a Patriot was disappointing, there is no denying that. If we look at the trade in a vacuum, however, the team can feel quite happy
that it did get something in return. Sure, marginal gains two years down the road are not ideal, but it’s still better than nothing. And make no mistake, the Patriots were prepared for that nothing before the Dolphins trade materialized. | Grade: B-
Matt St. Jean: Any time you get a return of literally any kind for a player you were about to cut, that’s a win. In this case, it’s about the smallest win possible. The 2000 Patriots draft class is known for having Tom Brady and Absolutely Nobody Else. Somehow, the 2024 draft class looks like an even worse version of the same phenomenon with Drake Maye and Marcellas Dial Jr. as the only remaining players on the roster. Fortunately for Patriots fans, the QB really is that much more important than everybody else. | Grade: C
Pat Lane: I guess I can’t complain about getting something for nothing, but Wallace being a bust certainly hurts the Patriots’ depth at an important position. Ultimately, he was getting cut anyway, so it’s better to get something back for him, but the trickle of compensation they got back shouldn’t distract from the failure of Wallace working out here. | Grade: D
