Brody King became one of AEW’s most talked-about stars by taking a firm stance against the country’s controversial tactics regarding immigration enforcement. So, it should come as no surprise that not only is he not backing down on talking about politics, but he also isn’t afraid to offer his candid take on President Donald Trump.
“He can go f*** himself,” King said of Trump onstage during an AEW panel at the recent Squared Circle Expo VI in Indianapolis after noting the president is in the WWE Hall
of Fame.
King went viral last summer when he wore an “Abolish ICE” t-shirt to the ring. He capitalized on the attention by selling a variation of the shirt, with proceeds benefiting families impacted by raids from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. King also later teamed up with Headlocked Comics for a similar charity initiative.
Many AEW fans have sided with King on the issue, and “F*** ICE” chants have broken out during the starts of his matches, which has garnered mainstream media coverage. With that in mind, King seemed primed to speak out when a fan at the Squared Circle Expo VI asked the panel if they “separate wrestling and politics and art,” or if the wrestlers “think that it can’t be separated.”
Eddie Kingston began by saying he’d let King field the question, before Orange Cassidy offered that “if we could take one thing away from this panel, it’s that Brody, you’re gonna make a great politician.”
“I’m absolutely not a politician. I just believe in what I think is right and wrong,” King replied.
He continued: “I think that all art forms in its basis are to make a statement. And whatever that is, good or bad, that is what art is for. And wrestling is an art form, and it is a way for people to express themselves. When the masses are frustrated about something, that’s going to come out in a certain way.”
Brody then added, “F*** ICE.”
Kingston then spoke how AEW president/owner Tony Khan allows the talent to express their views, noting Khan was fine with him wearing a “Black Lives Matter” shirt to the ring soon after he signed with the company.
Ortiz chimed in by saying “wrestling always follows what’s going on in in pop culture or whatever is going on in life.”
“Here’s what I’m going to leave it on,” King said to wrap up the topic. “People want to say just shut up and wrestle. Don’t talk about political statements.
“Our president is in the WWE Hall of Fame. That’s all I got to say. I don’t care if he wrestled or not. He can go f*** himself.”
What do you think, Cagesiders? Do you agree with King on Trump/ICE? Also, do you think wrestlers should take a public position on political issues? Let us know in the comments.
