The Iowa Hawkeyes (7-1, 0-1) return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena for another Big Ten tilt, this time with the 6-3 Maryland Terrapins. They have yet to face a Big Ten opponent but have gone 1-3 against power
conference opponents. It’s their first season with Buzz Williams as the head coach and there are zero returning players from last year’s Sweet 16 roster. KenPom has this one has Iowa as 11-point favorites. Vegas (DraftKings) like Iowa even more, at -13.5 at the time of this writing.

This is about as light an opponent as Iowa could get. Maryland currently ranks 15th Big Ten team according to KenPom but do have some players. They have power conference experience in Payne, Andre Mills, & Solomon Washington (Texas A&M), Myles Rice (Indiana), David Coit (Kansas), Elijah Saunders (Virginia).
But that doesn’t mean Iowa should take them lightly. Minnesota took down Indiana earlier this week and should serve as a lesson that anyone can come away with the W in this league. Iowa will be looking to shore up their rebounding (Maryland is not particularly strong on the glass) and ability to generate clean looks around the rim (the Terps are allowing 52.1% from 2 and are not as tall as Iowa’s previous opponents, blocking 7.5% of shots (263rd in the country)).
Let’s get the dub!
