The Wisconsin Badgers are back in the Final Four after an amazing weekend, beating the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal and No. 1 Texas Longhorns to get there as they continue their improbable season.
The Badgers kicked things off last Friday with a 3-1 win over No. 2 Stanford in the Texas Super Regional, with Mimi Colyer having a career-high in kills (27), while Carter Booth tied her career-high (14 kills).
Wisconsin had 70 kills in the match, with Una Vajagic also getting into double-figures, while Charlie
Fuerbringer had 61 assists, also a career-high. The Badgers hit a whopping .420 in the win, taking the match 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22.
Then came a rematch against Texas, which swept the Badgers earlier this season. And Wisconsin found a way to win. Once again, it was a big Colyer game, as the star went for 23 kills, while Vajagic had 15 and Booth had 11. But, this one needed every single player, all the way down to Trinity Shadd-Ceres, who came off the bench for a couple of clutch kills down the stretch.
Despite having 25 attack errors, the aggressive Badgers won 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19 to upset the No. 1 seed in their bracket and advance to the Final Four, where the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats await.
Kentucky has had a stellar season, going 29-2, with its lone losses being to Nebraska (3-2) and Pitt (3-0), who were both No. 1 seeds in the tournament. They are riding a 26-game win streak and certainly have their share of ranked wins, including multiple over Texas.
Wisconsin will have its hands full, but this team has shown it can rise in the biggest moments. So, let’s see if they can find a way to have some more magic this weekend.
