The San Francisco 49ers’ first injury report for Week 4 is out:
WR Jordan Watkins (calf) WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) WR Jauan Jennings (ankle/shoulder) DT CJ West (thumb) LT Trent Williams (vet day) RB Christian
McCaffrey (vet day) DL Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) Edge Nick Bosa (knee)
Kyle Shanahan didn’t say much about Pearsall’s injury: “I’m not sure which play it was on. He can’t go today. Hopefully, he’ll get better later in the week.”
Here are the players who will be limited:
QB Brock Purdy (shoulder/toe)
QB Mac Jones (knee)
CB Renardo Green (neck)
OL Connor Colby (groin)
CB Deommodore Lenoir (illness)
Shanahan was asked whether third-stringer Adrian Martinez would get the reps with both Purdy and Jones injured. Shanahan said Purdy and Jones will still take reps, but it won’t be the full amount they usually take during practice. Martinez will still get more reps than usual.
Shanahan, still mum on the injury front, wouldn’t confirm whether Purdy or Jones is healthier than the other: “No, I think they’re both just limited.” The most information the Niners’ head coach shared was that Brock was healthier than he was on Sunday, and hopefully that continues.
The 49ers get Demarcus Robinson back at wide receiver. Shanahan said he’s excited to get Robinson back involved at practice. Robinson’s suspension being lifted comes at an ideal time, with Pearsall and Jennings injured.
Shanahan is hopeful that the team gets Jennings back at practice this week:
Hopefully, he can this week. He was similar to last week. He was close to get in. He wasn’t able to make it. It’ll be the same this week.
Gross-Matos is going to continue the current practice plan he’s on:
“I see a guy who has battled to get out there, especially what he went through this whole offseason. It’s been good so far, just being able to get him out there on Thursdays and get him to play on Sundays. He’s been able to do that routine. Hopefully, he gets better, not worse, as the season goes. It’s something we’ll keep evaluating.”
Shanahan said that Gross-Matos’ practice plan will be “until it shows us that it doesn’t have to be the plan.”
