Ahead of their visit to Anfield to play Liverpool FC in UEFA Champions League action, Atletico Madrid spoke at their pre-game presser, and he had really good things to say about the Merseysiders:
“All I care about really is Liverpool, but Mohamed Salah is an extraordinary player, who has been playing at a fantastic level for the last few years with Liverpool and his national team.”
“Liverpool are going through a fantastic spell of football; they seem to have a different rhythm, and it is a pleasure
to see them play.”
“They have no fear to leave spaces at the back. They press high, play a high line, have speed.”
“Van Dijk has improved solidity in defence, which is important even for an attacking team like Liverpool, and he brings security they didn’t have last year.”
Atletico come to Anfield on shaky form, having dropped points in their first three games of their season, with a 2-1 loss to Espanyol away, a 1-1 draw to Elche, and another 1-1 draw away at Alaves, before finally defeating Villareal 2-0 at home. They will be without Julian Alvarez, who picked up a knee injury over the weekend and did not make the trip to Liverpool.
It’s nights like this that Anfield lives for, and it’ll surely be a raucous atmosphere tonight as Liverpool FC kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign. Up the reds.
