The San Francisco 49ers punched, got punched, and punched back on their way to their fifth consecutive victory in 2026 with a hard-fought, message-sending win over the defending Super Bowl champions. From the first play, the 49ers were hell-bent on sending a message: the bullies are still here, and last year was last year. The team survived a momentum swing in Seattle’s favor and responded with two consecutive scoring drives to take a lead they would not relinquish. The pass rush was ferocious, and with Nick
Bosa’s return imminent, this defense feels on the brink of truly breaking out.
Here are three takeaways from the 49ers’ massive win over Seattle:
Mike Evans is a Hall of Famer
Not that his status was ever in doubt for a gold jacket, but the veteran receiver was the best player on the field on Sunday. When the chips were down, Brock Purdy targeted Evans often on a drive punctuated by a Brandin Cooks touchdown grab and a two-point conversion from Evans. Routinely whipping Josh Jobe, Evans made contested catch after catch, and Purdy’s rapport with the veteran looked like a ten-year relationship.
Evans leads all wide receivers with 11 first downs on third down. The 49ers needed speed and separators at the receiver position to test Seattle’s secondary. On Sunday, Evans dominated and didn’t even need any separation. Age ain’t nothing but a number! Way to go, Big Mike!
The 49ers’ running game sends a message
Seattle’s defense is fast and physical and can slow down outside zone runs. What is the answer? The 49ers went back to bully ball and beat up Seattle with their interior offensive line and duo runs. Christian McCaffrey finished with a 6.2 YPA and two runs over ten plus yards.
According to Sumer Sports, the 49ers’ run game produced the highest designed rush success rate in any game against a Mike Macdonald defense. They had an 80% success rate on outside zone and had 3.1 yards before contact on those runs. The Seahawks’ previous opponents averaged 0.7 yards before contact on outside zone.
The final drive leading to the leading field goal was a complete statement on the ground. The bullies are back, and the 49ers can play any style you like to finish a victory.
Renardo Green has arrived
The 49ers defense had many stars on Sunday. A monster game from Gracen Halton, another classic Fred Warner performance, and a pass rush highlighted by Keion White, Sebastian Valdez, and the returning Mykel Williams all need to be discussed. Malik Mustapha was physical and flying to the football. Even with Dre Greenlaw’s ejection, the 49ers defense was flying around, and Raheem Morris is doing a fantastic job as the defensive coordinator.
It was Renardo Green who may have made the loudest statement on Sunday. Two interceptions and a PBU while allowing two catches for five yards and an NFL QB rating of 8.3 is truly elite play. Even facing the best receiver in the NFL was no issue for Green, as the Florida State cornerback held JSN to one catch for four yards on three targets with an interception and a PBU.
Green has three interceptions this season and is blossoming before our eyes.
