Live from Delaware, it’s Saturday Night! I, NAS204PSU, am here at BTSC to bring you this Saturday Night Open Thread (aka SNOT).
It’s Father’s Day tomorrow. My Dad worked hard for years: starting off at foundry, then college for elementary education, then driving truck, lucky enough to work at a brake rotors plant then worked his way up to plant manager, and finally a stint at GE Transportation QCing Train Engines. He definitely showed hard work and was always fixing something or working on things
at home. He kept a GE dryer alive for 40+ years till it finally needed a part and the junkyard store told him they hadn’t seen one in 10+ years, let alone parts for it. He never paid for something he could do with his own two hands.
I was fortunate to have a role model who showed what hard work really was, but also overcame his vices (he survived a heart attack and quit drinking and smoking). If you can, hug your Dad this weekend. I’ll be hugging mine as soon as I can.
This 5 pack of questions is here to get the conversation going, so let us know what you’re eating/drinking!
1. Polamolecules_Dude is asking “How did the Steelers not win with the Killer-Bs?” (Ben, AB, Bell, and Boz). What do you think the biggest reason we couldn’t take the Stairway to Se7en with the Killer-Bs?
2. Mount Warshington is allegedly going to slim down due to MMcC’s new weight rules.Do you think we’ll still see the Beast that was Darnell or will he move to more of a Travis Kelce type?
3. There are a lot of ‘”Former” Steelers signing elsewhere’ articles, but many never suited up in a reg season game for the black and gold. If you could define the minimum to call someone a “former” Steeler, what would it be? (Consider: made a 53 man roster, played in a regulator season game, recorded a stat, spent X years with the team, etc)
4. Making ashtrays seemed to be a popular craft for kids when I was young (My dad also smoked a pack of Marboros a day, so it made sense). What’s the best handmade gift you’ve given or received?
5. One of my Dad’s favorite TV shows is Gunsmoke starring James Arness as Marshall Matt Dillon. Did your dad have a favorite show/movie/comic/book etc?
Song of the Night: The Mexican by Babe Ruth (1972) (A rock band from the 70s my dad had the vinyl of, and for Father’s Day I burned him a CD of it by downloading from Napster in early aughts.)
