Good morning! The Red Sox released a behind-the-scenes video from Story Camp yesterday and I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking to improve their form on barbell squats. But the most intriguing thing in the video may come at about the 10-minute mark, when Jarren Duran is briefly shown wearing an infielder’s glove and taking some grounders:
Let’s be clear: Duran was almost certainly just messing around and we shouldn’t read anything into this. It has now been seven years since Duran was moved
off of second base, which happened almost as soon as he entered professional baseball. There is no evidence to suggest that he is capable of playing the infield in the upper minors, let alone the bigs.
But if Craig Breslow fails to make a trade to clear the outfield logjam, then there simply is no way to get Duran, Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Triston Casas in the same lineup unless someone moves elsewhere on the diamond — and that’s not even considering Masatka Yoshida and Kristian Campbell. So while, yes, it’s insane to suggest that Jarren Duran could be capable of moving back to the infield at this point, it’s worth considering that it’s been done before…
