Tom Bischof will have a new look heading into the 2026/27 season after switching from jersey No. 20 to the iconic No. 8 at Bayern Munich. The number carries plenty of history at the club and reflects the growing confidence Bayern Munich has in one of its brightest young midfielders.
After arriving from Hoffenheim last summer, Bischof showed his versatility by filling in across multiple positions whenever Vincent Kompany needed him. With Leon Goretzka and Raphaël Guerreiro moving on, the German U-21
captain is expected to take on a much larger role in Bayern Munich’s midfield this season.
FCBayern.com released the news:
Tom Bischof will be wearing a new shirt number for FC Bayern from next season onwards. Instead of the number 20 shirt he wore during his first season with the German record champions, the 21-year-old takes over the number eight shirt from Leon Goretzka, who left the club this summer.
The No. 8 shirt feels like more than just a cosmetic change. It symbolizes increased responsibility and higher expectations for a player many believe is ready to become an important part of Bayern Munich’s future. Now, all eyes will be on Bischof to make the number his own and continue his rise in Munich.
