Happy belated Halloween.
I hope everyone had a happy holiday. I spent it at my mother-in-law’s house, eating chili, building a puzzle, and handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters of the neighborhood. The kids would knock, give their spiel, and then ask: “How many can I take?” I spent a good amount of the night considering whether this question was rude or polite. It made me laugh regardless. The enthusiasm for the answer (“take two please!”) seemed to wane throughout the evening as our bowl got
picked over and Twizzlers were all that remained.
It’s officially November. Daylight Savings Time has ended across the United States, meaning you have an extra hour this week to think of a good caption for our weekly contest.

This Week’s Contest
This week’s photo comes from a Mariners loss in Kansas City last May. It’s not exactly clear which play this comes from. The official caption says it was the fifth inning, but Luke Raley didn’t come up to bat in the fifth. He flew out in both the fourth and sixth innings. Regardless, after one of those fly outs, he spiked his helmet in frustration. I imagine he was frustrated, because it was pretty rare for Raley to make an out in those days. He hit .328/.403/.719 in May with eight homers as a platoon bat. His 215 wRC+ for the month was the sixth best by a Mariner this century.

Rules
- Respond to the photo with a caption, essay, drawing, counter image, math equation, or literally anything Coral allows you to post. It can be funny, poetic, or whatever the photo inspires in you.
- Unlimited entries, though be considerate.
- No politics, religion, generative AI, or anything that violates our community guidelines. Please don’t try to be clever and sneak it in. Please don’t put the burden of deciding whether the caption is against the rules on our mod team. This is meant to be moderately fun engagement bait, and the alternative is a duel history of Joe Espada and Jason Kanzler, told in a split-screen perspective, kind of like Living On The Black, but far less relevant.
- Please read other comments and “rec” the ones you like. The comment that gets the most recs will be the winner. I will also choose a comment or two that speaks to me personally.
- The deadline for commenting and voting will be whenever I get around to doing the post for the week.
