The Kansas City Chiefs will likely be adding to the receiver room soon. The injuries to Tyquan Thornton (long-term) and Rashee Rice (short-term) may force the team’s hand. On Friday, the team reportedly expressed interest in one former wideout: free agent Justin Watson.
However, in the trade market, could the team revisit a player it was in on during free agency before he signed elsewhere?

The latest Kansas City Chiefs news
Chiefs May Get 2nd Crack at $8 Million WR Who Slipped Away in Offseason | Heavy Sports
Adam Schefter of ESPN told the “Pat McAfee Show” in early May that Kansas City was in on Jennings.
“The Chiefs and Commanders also were interested in Jauan Jennings,” Schefter said. “Ultimately, he got a one-year deal from Minnesota worth up to $13 million dollars. It’s about $8 million dollars in base pay.”
However, through four weeks Jennings has appeared in just three games for the Vikings and earned only one start. He has tallied a mere two catches for nine yards on a total of four targets.
Mike Ditka, who died Friday, once issued a playful warning to Chiefs’ Andy Reid | The Kansas City Star
In that role, Ditka issued a playful warning to Andy Reid — who had just finished his first season as the Chiefs
Reid had guided the Chiefs to an 11-5 record and playoff appearance one year after they won just two games. Ditka, meanwhile, was one of the most famous coaches of his era because of the success his teams had on the field, as well as his blunt talk.
So that year, in 2014, he was presenting the 101’s NFC Coach of the Year award to the Carolina Panthers’ Ron Rivera, as The Star reported that night. And that’s when Ditka turned to Reid and said: “Andy, I want to tell you one thing: They gave me this award one year, and they tried to take it away three years later.”
Chiefs Pass Rush Stats Lie, But George Karlaftis Proves It | Yahoo! Sports
Look at George Karlaftis for a clear example of this weird stat gap. Against Kirk Cousins on Sunday, Pro Football Focus credited him with seven quarterback hits. This outing brought his season total to 12 quarterback hits. Yet, he has zero sacks to show for it.
That is a massive disconnect between effort and result. Other players like Greg Rousseau and Dallas Turner have six sacks each, but Karlaftis is tied for the league lead in hits without the final reward.
‘Not to stop a stadium’: Wyandotte County lawsuit says Chiefs stadium law strips leaders of local control | KCTV5
House Bill 2466, which would enact the Kansas Sports Authority Act and authorize STAR Bond projects — including the area of Kansas City, Kansas, where the Kansas City Chiefs plan to build their future home — includes several provisions that the UG takes issue with.
“This case is about who decides how a community governs itself,” lawyers for the UG wrote in the lawsuit. “The Unified Government does not oppose economic development, and it does not oppose professional football in Kansas. But House Bill 2466 does more than invite a stadium to Wyandotte County.”
Chiefs RB Kenneth Walker Welcomes Potential Tyreek Hill Reunion in Kansas City | Sports Illustrated
In an interview with Yahoo Sports on behalf of Orgain, running back Kenneth Walker III was asked what he thought about Hill potentially rejoining the Chiefs. The NFL’s leading rusher is all for bringing “Cheetah” back.
“I’ve seen his speed. Everybody knows Tyreek Hill is just straight speed, and he’s just an athlete in general,” Walker said. “And just watching him over the years, I’m like, ‘He’s one of the best players that really played.’ So, it’s cool to see that. I think it’s cool and it would be a great addition to our team.”

Ravens rule out Lamar Jackson vs. Falcons: Can Tyler Huntley come through again? | The Athletic
“The system of our offense and what we do does not have to change a whole lot,” coach Jesse Minter said Wednesday. “A lot of the plays, especially whether it’s when we are under center and running a lot of those types of things, Snoop can do all that. He can make a lot of those same plays. Obviously, Lamar’s magic is what it is.”
Minter ruled out Jackson on Friday after he did not practice all week. Minter did not specify a timeline for when Jackson would return but said the team has “a ton of confidence in ‘Snoop’ to play really well.”
Broncos OC Davis Webb says ‘not ideal’ to lose playcalling duties | ESPN
Despite an ideal fit and time to acclimate, Jurgens’ promise never quite matched his production. He started strong, ranking in the upper half among his counterparts in 2024, per Pro Football Focus, and signed a four-year, $68 million extension in 2025, but battled health challenges that required surgery that offseason.
In 2026, an injury to guard Landon Dickerson prompted coach Nick Sirianni to slide Jurgens over to replace Dickerson, producing nightmarish results that included a second-to-last PFF grade through four weeks.
NFL Week 5 injury report: Eagles’ Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith out, Bears’ Caleb Williams questionable | CBS Sports
The already struggling Eagles will be without star running back Saquon Barkley, who suffered a hamstring injury during last week’s loss to the Rams. The offense will also be without WR DeVonta Smith.
The Jags are relatively healthy heading into their annual London game, with just two players with designations this week. CB Jaylon Jones was ruled out with a hamstring injury, despite being limited in practice all week, and Eric Murray is doubtful after being limited for the last two days of practice.

3 things that must improve about the Chiefs after the bye week
Third-down defense
This season, the Chiefs allow 37% of third-down conversions, ranking 13th in the NFL.
The Chiefs’ pressure rate is middle of the pack (24%), but on third down, they rank 25th (40%). The team has only one third-down sack this year: defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah’s strip sack of Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix in Week 1.
