Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 8, Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) 4
This was a nice showing for the Norfolk offense, collecting eight runs on 12 hits and two walks. Enrique Bradfield Jr. had two of those hits, including a double, plus a walk, a run scored, and two RBI. Jud Fabian added a single, two RBI, and a run scored. Brandon Butterworth singled twice and drove in a run. Sam Huff, Bryan Ramos, and José Barrero had one double each.
Trace Bright started on the bump and lasted five innings while allowing three runs on nine hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. His
Triple-A ERA came down slightly to 7.67. Yaqui Rivera was quite good over his two shutout innings, racking up three strikeouts. Gerald Ogando followed by recording two outs and allowing a run on a hit and two walks. And it was Yaramil Hiraldo that got the save while working the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 8, Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants) 7
After two straight starts that were below his standard, Joseph Dzierwa got back on track here. He delivered five shutout innings in which he allowed two hits and a walk while striking out four. The five Norfolk relievers that followed him were a mixed bag. Brock Moore and Micah Ashman worked a scoreless inning each, though Ashman did allow all three of the runners he inherited in the ninth inning to score. Keagan Gillies allowed one run in his lone frame. And then both Bradley Brehmer and Richard Guasch were charged with three runs allowed each. Brehmer’s came through the eighth inning, while Guasch failed to record an out in the ninth.
Despite the poor showing from the bullpen overall, the Baysox offense did enough scoring early to hold onto the win. All eight of those runs came in the game’s first three innings. Griff O’Ferall led off the game with a solo homer. Later in that same inning Ethan Anderson smacked a two-run shot, his 21st of the Double-A season. Aron Estrada and Colin Tuft had two RBI each. Wehiwa Aloy went 1-for-5 with a run scored and two strikeouts. Vance Honeycutt was 0-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and three strikeouts.
