Good morning! As I continue to seethe at Kyle Hudson’s decision not to send the runner on that horrific Colton Cowser throw last night, I am at least comforted by the farm’s collection of games against goofy-named teams like the Jumbo Shrimp, the Rumble Ponies, and the Spartanburgers. Let’s get into the action!
Worcester: W, 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

David Hamilton hit the only home run of the night on either side, way back in the leadoff spot in the first inning, and the Red Sox plated three more runs on three hits in the fourth inning to pad
their lead. It turned out to be all they needed against Jacksonville (Marlins AAA) behind a solid start, if not a start with a few too many hits, from Kyle Harrison, and a masterclass rehab inning from Justin Slaten. If I’m Craig Breslow, I’m looking at those three strikeouts — two of which were called looking as Slaten painted those corners — and figuring I’m getting him up as soon as I can. The bullpen needs it.
Portland: W, 8-3 (BOX SCORE)

Following a quality start by Caleb Bolden, Cooper Adams was almost untouchable in a multi-inning relief spot, and that continued as the Sea Dogs built upon their late lead. It was a catchers’ day against Binghamton (Mets AA): Ronald Rosario was able to score twice off two extra-base hits (including a home run) from Brooks Brannon. The two catchers combined for seven RBIs and the Sea Dogs rolled to a win.
Greenville: L, 1-6 (BOX SCORE)

Luis Cohen was touched up in a start that ended in the fifth, and Greenville’s bats had no spark, as the Drive had just four total hits on the night in Spartanburg (Rangers High-A). Johanfran Garcia quietly has strung together a six-game hit streak and has knocks in 14 of his last 15 games, and it’s a shame the hits weren’t part of a bigger collective effort.
Salem: L, 0-3 (BOX SCORE)

I’ve said it before: it’s awfully tough to win a game if you score zero runs. It was indeed tough for the Sox to get anything going against the Carolina (Brewers A) pitching staff; at one point, 13 consecutive batters were retired by Melvin Hernandez, who was able to go seven strong on 79 pitches. The entire game flew by in a brisk 2 hours, 10 minutes. That’s a night that a Major League pitcher might sail to a complete game on. Salem didn’t even draw a walk on the night, and picked up just three total bases on the night.
Have a fantastic Wednesday!
