Bayern Munich winger Luis Díaz will get a much-needed break from international duty during the upcoming international window after Colombia coach Néstor Lorenzo opted not to call him up for the team’s friendly matches against Mexico, Paraguay, and Peru.
The decision was reportedly reached through an agreement between Bayern Munich and the Colombian Football Federation, allowing Díaz to remain in Munich and focus on rest and fitness work.
Díaz has had a busy start to life at Bayern Munich and is still
working toward reaching his best level. With the winger having already accumulated a significant workload, the international break provides an opportunity to recharge rather than add another set of matches to his schedule.
Lorenzo explained that he had a conversation with Díaz about his current condition and ultimately agreed that the Bayern Munich star would benefit from some time away from competitive action.
“I spoke with him and said: ‘You look tired, Lucho. You don’t have your usual sprint, what’s wrong?’ – And well, we agreed that he should rest this week because he has played more than 60 games,” Lorenzo said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
For Bayern Munich, the arrangement could prove valuable. Díaz should have the opportunity to spend the break resting and working directly with the club’s staff instead of traveling and playing additional friendlies.
The hope will be that the Colombian returns refreshed and ready to show the explosive form Bayern Munich expected when it brought him to Munich. With a long season ahead, a little rest now could go a long way.
