The LSU Tigers rolled against the Cowboys from Lake Charles, and while the starters played a significant amount, one young player truly made a name for himself and, because of it, could see more playing time moving forward.
Corey Barber Jr. is a true freshman wide receiver who flipped his commitment from Ole Miss to LSU after Lane Kiffin was announced as the Tigers’ new head coach in December. There was a lot of speculation about when the young, budding star receiver would get his chance to showcase
his abilities.
Well, he got his shot on Saturday night and did not disappoint.
Winnie Watkins dropped two touchdown passes early in the first half, and after the second drop, Watkins was replaced by Barber, who went on to have a statement game Saturday night.
Barber was targeted seven times and caught all seven passes. He finished as the team leader in receptions and receiving yards with seven catches for 83 yards, while also adding two touchdowns to his stat line.
Barber was able to showcase that he can be trusted no matter the situation and regardless of his experience. He is another example of just how bright the future of this team truly is.
With true freshmen like Deuce Geralds already making an impact on the defensive side of the ball, adding a true freshman who can make an immediate impact on offense is huge and a welcome sight. His growth strengthens the depth of this team, especially after LSU has battled so many injuries early in the season.
After such a strong performance, Corey Barber Jr. is the And The Valley Shook Game MVP.
Who do you think had a standout performance, and did you like what you saw from the backups on Saturday night?
