According to a report from Danish publication Bold, Liverpool FC are amongst a host of Premier League clubs interested in Porto’s 20-year-old midfielder Victor Froholdt. Arsenal and Newcastle United are the other parties named.
The Danish midfielder moved to Porto from Copenhagen last summer in a deal worth under £20million, and is now a Portuguese league champion, chipping in with six goals and five assists across 32 appearances. Froholdt is considered a versatile midfielder, able to progress the
ball through his passing range, carry it under pressure, and operate across different roles. That sort of flexibility would naturally appeal to Liverpool, whose midfield needs a rejuvenation of balance, control and athleticism.
However, as we mentioned earlier, Froholdt only just moved to Porto last summer, so Porto hold all the leverage in any potential negotiations.
The player himself seems settled in Portugal. Speaking during FC Porto’s title celebrations after victory over Alverca, he said: “I would love to continue here next season, to play in the Champions League for FC Porto. I already feel at home in Porto, and I am very happy here.”
I think this is just Danish press helping his agents raise the stock of the player for a future move more than anything. For Liverpool’s case, there are certainly targets from more competitive leagues, and with more favourable contract situations that they’re already looking at.
