Conor McGregor isn’t sweating any particular opponent as he prepares to make his return to action for the first time in five years with hopes that he can compete at UFC White House in June.
The former two-division champion, who hasn’t fought since suffering a broken leg in a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier in 2021, is adamant that he wants to fight at the card being hosted by President Donald Trump on June 14. While no matchmaking has actually taken place for the event, McGregor previously revealed
he expected to finally settle the score with Michael Chandler after they previously coached against each other on The Ultimate Fighter, but never actually got the chance to meet in the octagon.
A toe injury suffered by McGregor in training prevented the fight from happening, but on Thursday, UFC CEO Dana White shut down the idea of rebooking the Irish superstar against Chandler saying “No, that was a couple of years ago.” It didn’t take long for McGregor to respond and it’s clear his focus remains on the White House, Chandler or no Chandler.
“Pick who ya want!” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “The Mac sweats nothing and nobody. I’m TASTY SHOTS.”
While White seemingly shot down McGregor vs. Chandler at the White House, sources told MMA Fighting the long awaited matchup is still on the UFC’s radar, especially given the interest from both athletes.
Chandler told MMA Fighting back in September 2025 that he was confident that he would be the one to face McGregor in his comeback and he hasn’t backed down from that belief ever since.
“I think we’re closer now than we ever have been,” Chandler said. “I’ve always said if you’re a betting man, don’t put money on him necessarily coming back but now this changes things a lot.
“In my heart of hearts, I think I’m fighting Conor McGregor at the White House and that sure does make a ton of sense for a multitude of reasons.”
Perhaps that has changed but either way, McGregor doesn’t seem bothered by possibly facing a different opponent, although it’s impossible to know for certain until the UFC White House card is finalized if Chandler is truly off the board.
