And we finally have a Tennessee Volunteer go off the board in the 2026 NFL Draft, and surprisingly to many, it wasn’t CB Jermod McCoy.
Instead, it was McCoy’s position mate, Colton Hood. The New York Giants pulled the trigger on Hood with pick No. 38 in the second round.
Man, I’ve got to give our own Terry Lambert some props here. He had projected Hood at Round 2, pick 36 to the Las Vegas Raiders in his draft profile. Hood went one pick later
instead.
Hood becomes the third player taken by the Giants in the draft’s first 37 picks. The G-men took Ohio State LB Arvell Reese with the fifth overall pick. They also held pick No. 10 after trading DL Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals earlier in the week, which they used to take Miami Hurricanes OL Francis Mauigoa.
The Giants needed help pretty much everywhere on their roster, including in their secondary, so Hood steps into a franchise with the opportunity to compete for a starting job. He also joins former Vol standout Jalin Hyatt as a VFL in the Big Apple.
Congrats, Colton!
