The Detroit Tigers opened up the back leg of their current homestand with an 8-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Keider Montero was far from his usual self, surrendering six runs in four-plus innings, while the offense just did not have enough to dig out of the hole.
Taking the mound for Game 2 of the three-game series for the Motor City Kitties is right-hander Troy Melton, who has held his opponents to two runs or less over his last six games. The 25-year-old has posted a 1.31 ERA and 3.08 FIP over the past
34 1/3 innings, allowing 18 hits (three home runs) and 13 walks while striking out 41.
Melton faced Baltimore at Camden Yards in his first start of the 2026 campaign back on May 24 in the second game of a doubleheader, allowing just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out three over 5 2/3 frames for the win in a 4-1 final.
Opposite him for the Orioles is fellow righty Dean Kremer, who has struggled a bit over his last three starts. The 30-year-old has put up a 7.20 ERA and 6.58 FIP stretching across his last 15 innings, surrendering 18 hits (five home runs) and five walks while striking out 14, taking losses in two of those three appearances.
Kremer missed more than two months from the end of May to the beginning of July due to a right quad strain. His first game back was a beauty, throwing six innings of one-run ball on three hits — including a solo homer — and a walk while striking out four. However, it has been since then that he has hit that aforementioned rough patch.
