Baron Corbin won the United States championship from Trick Williams not long after he made his big return to WWE. Trick Willy won it back, thanks to his main man Lil Yachty coming through for him in a five-minute sprint to survive. When Corbin came back talking about how it isn’t over yet, despite Trick qualifying for Money in the Bank, it was clear we were headed for a rubber match.
Said rubber match was booked for this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Indianapolis, and took place right
at the top of the show. Commentary said it was “the final chapter” in this feud, and we can only hope that’s actually the case.
Onto bigger and better things for Trick?
They tried their best to put together a memorable back-and-forth battle, with Corbin kicking out of the Trick Shot — something Cole told us has never happened before — while Williams kicked out of Deep Six. In the end, Trick, pissed at how this entire thing has played out, hit three bookends before scoring the pinfall.
He retains the U.S. title and now has the chance to take the next step on Oct. 10 in New Orleans.
